We helped a global life sciences enterprise to streamline their automation plans by combining theoretical coaching with practical implementation advice.
Our client, one of the world's leading companies in life sciences, started their automation journey. However, their employees lacked the necessary end-to-end overview of processes across their many business and IT applications. Realizing that they needed an external party to assist with their automation efforts, they approached the experts at Humain.
We started our automation coaching service by developing an overarching automation playbook based on ideation and demand management. This showed our client how they could uncover valuable ideas for automation throughout their organization, and how to assess and prioritize those ideas. We gave them the tools and templates to execute this structured approach, so they could start building an automation backlog of processes and initiatives.
While we helped our client with the theoretical background and preparation for their automation initiatives, we also assisted them with the practical implementation of intelligent solutions. One of the processes to come out of the ideation sessions was the handling of incoming invoices from receipt to payment. We used this as a pilot project to illustrate the potential of automation, helped to fill in the gaps during the analysis phase, and supported the team during implementation.
Based on the lessons learned from the pilot project, we expanded the playbook for future processes to help our client. Both projects happened in parallel, so we could use input from either side to finetune the other. This included various finalized and tailored versions of the templates we originally included in our plan of approach: process intakes, defining and categorizing automation potential, high-level mapping of processes, setting up a business case, and choosing the right technologies.
To kickstart and scale their automation initiative, we set up a discovery workshop that would help fill the automation backlog. In a two-hour ideation session for over 100 employees, we inspired them by talking about autonomous enterprises and their impact on the future of work. Besides these in-person sessions, we also made it possible for our client's employees to submit their own ideas online and validate them through the tools and templates that we provided.
Thanks to the efforts of Humain, our client now has an extensive catalog filled with tasks and processes that can be automated. These use cases span a wide range of technologies from Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to generative AI, advanced analytics, and smart workflow solutions. With the right knowledge and a clear list of tasks, they can continue their ambitions worldwide and reach the next level of automation maturity.
